Living books for Life by Janis Scott
I’m a homeschooling Mom to five elementary school age kids. My husband is a self-employed sculptor and I produce home schooling materials whenever I get one of my ‘great ideas!’ I love many classical and Charlotte Mason ideas, but I love simple things that work. I’ve noticed a huge lack of Canadian home schooling resources and I’m excited to be a part of growing this area. As I go along, I develop resources that I need for my own family. Those years working in the public school system in learning assistance were really useful!
'Introduction' & 'Inside the Books' Video
One thing I didn’t mention in the above video that I get asked a lot is “What if my library doesn’t have the books you’ve listed?” The answer to that question is: we picked as many books as we could find for each outcome so that most libraries in BC will have at least one of the books listed. We have also listed ‘key words’ that you can use to plug into your online library search to find other books in the same category. If you are still unable to find a suitable book, you may want to request an inter-library loan from your librarian. Most libraries will allow a small amount of free inter-library loans per year.
I’ve home schooled my own kids from the beginning. If you’re picturing anything you’ve seen on TV, we’re not quite like that-though thousands of strangers ask me about it every time I leave the house with everyone! It’s extremely busy around our house. It’s so hard to get to everything I want to. Home schooling around here wasn’t quite matching up to what I hoped it would…so I dreamed this up from my own need for it.
